Holiday Properties in Bruton
Bruton has been on the up for a while now, attracting city dwellers who want to come and make a new life in a tiny country town, albeit one that’s got a lot going for it. Why’s it got a lot going for it? Well, for a start it’s a very pretty place, nestled peacefully in the rolling hills of Somerset; the narrow streets are lined with closely packed historic buildings and Hamstone cottages, little alleys known as bartons lead you down to where the River Brue winds its way peacefully along.
The main street is home to one-off galleries, boutique shops selling homewares and vintage, and some seriously good places to eat, like At The Chapel and Matt’s Kitchen. One thing not to miss is the contemporary art gallery at Hauser & Wirth on the edge of the town; amble around the Piet Oudolf gardens, go for eats at Roth Bar & Grill.
There are some very good walks in these parts. The obvious one is to stroll up to the 16th century Dovecote on the outskirts of town – the views are the loveliest. You could also wander out to King Alfred’s Tower, a folly built in 1772 to commemorate King George III coming to the throne.
Although it feels remote, Bruton is easy to reach by train from London and by car from the A303. If you’re staying nearby on your large group holiday in the UK, you should go for a browse around. You’ll like it there.
