The House

Through the porch there’s a wide hallway with the stairs straight ahead, the library to the left, and the games room to the right with a pool table and table football. By the stairs a lobby leads through to the inner hall; on the left is the country style kitchen, open plan to the dining room where it’s easy to imagine the chunky table laden with food and drink for a celebration feast. Make it extra special by hiring recommended chefs to come and cater for you (see Extras).

Off the dining room there’s a large utility room, also accessed from the inner hall and the back door, somewhere to take off your muddy boots, hang up your wet coats and dry the pet pooch after a walk in the woods.

Right of the inner hall is the living room with plenty of sofas, a big TV, a wood-burner and doors to the patio. Throughout the house the vibe is country-modern, with original beams and deep windowsills.

Bedrooms 1 and 2 are on the second floor, Bedrooms 3-8 and a family bathroom are on the first floor. Bedrooms 5 and 7 make good family rooms as they both have an extra guest bed.

The garden is huge, with lawns and flower beds at the front of the house; a large patio wraps around the back and the side, with garden furniture and a covered seating area. If the weather’s misbehavin’ head to the Nordic style BBQ lodge, get the steaks sizzling, snuggle beneath the fairy lights, toast marshmallows, enjoy happy chitchat.

There’s a play area and a trampoline for the little ones, and for all of you, a covered pool that’s all yours for the whole of your stay.
